2.5 Leveling Kit...Errr lift kit

I was riding down the street today and this popped into my head. Isn't a leveling kit like half of a real suspension lift? If you were added a taller block in the back you could consider it a suspension lift all the way around right? Has anyone added a taller block in the back with just the leveling kit to get an higher stance then the leveled look?

The leveling kits are just small suspension lifts. And yes, you can add a taller lift block in the rear to lift it a little.

I did exactly what your talking about. First I installed a 3" body lift second a 2.5" leveling kit in the front thirdly I installed a 2" add a leaf in the rear. Then took the truck to get the front end aligned (a must) if you use a leveling kit. End result I have almost 6" of lift for about $500.00. This is good combo for 35" tires plenty of clearance.

Hey Jason,
What leveling kit did you go with? I found this leveling kit on E-bay and I'm thinking about buying it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-03...20336087QQrdZ1

Also how hard was it to get out the torsion bars?

Dont bother with the re-indexed torsion keys. Its the equivalent to cranking your torsion bars, except more than stock would allow. Makes for a really stiff ride and puts your front suspension geometry out of whack.

Johngs and Wandell do have a good point the re-clocked/re-indexed torsion cams would just crank the torsions further then stock putting a lot of stress on my CV half shafts and my ball joints. But I just wanted to get a few opinions on these leveling kits so thanks.

Dont me wrong, cranking torsion bars is ok, but dont crank them more than leveling out the truck. Going past that is when you start to run into those issues mentioned earlier.

Yeah but if I can only go another inch then it's not worth spending $200 on it. If I could lift it a full 3 inches and put another add-a-leaf in my rear without stressing my front componets then it would be well worth it. I'm already tired of trying to lift IFS. So maybe I won't lift my 99 anymore, maybe I'll get another truck to lift like a 78 for example.
