Effects of winter salt.

My first post.
I have a beautiful 03 Heritage Edition 4x4, 5.4, black& burgandy.
Just love it, but have noticed that the undercarriage is showing signs of the effects of road salt that is applied to our roadways every winter.
As the truck is 3 years old, surface rust has invaded the undercarriage.
Any ideas on how I can restore the looks, and at the same time protect
my baby from future salt invasion. :santa:

when I bought my 02 they had an option at the dealership to get the undercarriage frame sprayed. I can't remember what it cost but mine still looks good and they salt the roads in MD if it rains, or 2" of salt for 1" of snow! I've seen the spray in bedliner material you can buy in a spray can, wonder if that would work. I would just be scared to overspray something under there that shouldnt be sprayed.

what i would do and if the area is not that big, is grind away the rust, prime it and then put a good coat of that bed liner stuff on it. i don't live where it snows so i don't know what you all go through. i was just making a suggestion.

I have some bad rust problems on my 98. The best stuff I've found is
por15.

www.por15.com

It's "paint over rust" and actually bonds to the rust and protects it from moisture. I have friends who use this on 60's muscle cars and it works well. I just did a undercoat on my truck, looks alot better and rust hasn't appeared where I painted.
