I'll just go ahead and get this question out of the way: Why in the hell would you want to lower a 4x4? That goes against everything that is 4x4...

i want to put some 22's on my truck and i dont think that it looks good when you have big wheels with a lower profile tire and then huge gaps between the wheel well and the tire. i want the truck to sit better and have a smaller gap between the wheel well and the tire. but at the same time i live in mass. and in the winter i need my stock tires for 4x4 thats why i have a 4x4.

Well, now, that makes sense....

If you do lower it for the 22's & LP's, will you have to raise it again to put the stock tires back on? You could be looking at a butt load of work every fall and spring. Sorry, I can't help with your question, but I knew that someone would ask, and I wanted to be first...

no i wont have to raise it again for the stockers because even tho i have stock 18's and im looking for 22's, the tire size is almost the same on them. so what im trying to do is just lower the truck to get rid of the gap.

Before joining this site and FTW I had no idea that people bought 4x4's for reasons other than hunting and going through muddy farm land. Your idea sounds like it would work. Good luck.

well i bought my 4x4 cause i work construction and constantly need to pull up on sandy or muddy job sites, but i would still like to have 22 inch rims just not with big tires on them but i don't want rubberbands for tires either. 305/45's are perfect. my friend has a kingranch with 22's and 305/45's and its one of the nicest trucks i've ever seen

I am one of the apparent few that want to lower my 4x4 as well to fit on 22's a little better. Although you have a different year truck than mine, I have a '97, I have found a company that sells lowering keys and shackles for a 4x4. The kit is from a company named "Ground Force." I am not sure about your year F-150, but they sell it for the pre-04 models

True.
The rear blocks are approx 2". Apparintly taking them out is quite simple, if you do a search you'll find quite a few people that have done it, some with some walkthroughs I believe. The only thing extra you should need is the 4x2 U-Bolts as the 4x4 are too long and don't have enough threads.

Your dealer has them as well as alot of the online ford parts stores. If I remember correctly they're about $40 for all four.

I say get the drop shackle b/c u can lower it 1" or 2" just using the different holes on the shackle. That way if you still want to keep a little rack you can if not go full 2". Then if you want or need the truck lower you can then remove the blocks. The shackles will cost you like $50 or so.
