"pop" in steering

I picked up a new Idler and pitman arm for my '99 4X4 and I only installed the idler arm. Truck drives much smoother, smaller turning radius, and over all a better ride. However, I ran into some problems getting the old pitman arm off so I left it for the time being. Now when I turn, sometimes I hear a "pop" coming from the front end. It usually happens when the wheel is close to being maxed out at either side. I'm not sure if a new pitman arm would help the problem but if so, I plan on getting to it soon.

EDIT: Ball joints and wheel bearings seem good.
