"alignment job" wtf

Okay so i just got back from getting my alignment done. im just a little under 30k so i didnt think it would be bad.
All he did was drive it a min, put it on a rack. didnt raise it off the floor. put a bar between the tires rolled the truck back a little and he was done. WTF....
When i took my susp and steering class last year in a tech school. We had to look it up on a comp and take all the messurements. put a bar to hold steering wheel in place so it stays straight. lift the truck up check for ball joint replacement. recalibrate it to stock specifications on all suspension parts.

Did i just get ripped off, did he even do anything?

Anyone with knowledge PLEASE help.

I don't know about getting screwed. But I would damn sure make them explain to everything that he did. Call the service manager out, and have him watch the guy do the job. That sounds a little shady to me.

You certainly did not get a full 4wheel alignment and not a complete front end alignment from what you have described. When I do a front end alignment the truck is 1. Road tested to check for steering abnormalitys such as bump steer, under or oversteer or pulling from one side to the other ,etc. 2. Driven on the rack onto a set of turn tables. 3. Raised up and all suspension and steering components inspected for wear and looseness, tire pressures OK. 4. Install and true out camber and caster guages on the front wheels. Lower front end and begin by checking Camber then swingin for caster. Install a steering wheel lock in place and if no corrections are needed finally checking for toe-in or toe-out condition. 5. print out a report or if manual guages are used write a final readings report and corrections performed. 6. Road test

Sounds to me like they checked toe-in,toe-out and thats it!!!

I would ask for a print out or a copy of the alignment performed and what corrections if any were made.

Go back, find that bar he used and bust his kneecaps.
He'll never rip anyone off again.

Lightbulb

well i took my book, printed out this thread, and brought the biggest friend i have lol...
After talking with him i feel much more confident in what he did. He said that he didnt need to check the ball joints b.c he said with a truck still under 50k that i didnt need to check them unless i live on a dirt road with ruts that i drive on daily....
And he said he didnt look up the specs b.c he says that he just adjusts the toe in to have just a lil bit of toe in. and he said he check all the other ones and didnt need to make an adjustment other then toe.
I plan on lowering my truck here in the next two months or so. but i bet i wont be taking it back to him....
thanks for all the help. i love this site!
