lifting a 2WD

I have a 01 F150 2WD SuperCrew. I want to lift it up so it is comparable to the 4WD height.

What do I need to do in order to accomplish this? Is this expensive?

You can buy a 2.5 inch Daystar, Autospring or other leveling kit for the front for around $100. A set of lift blocks for the rear should run around $30 to $40.

So that would be the only thing I would need in order to get my 2WD the same height as a stock 4WD model?

I would stick some 3 inch lift spindles in the front and 1 or 2 inch lift blocks in the back

It will probably be a tad higher than a stock 4x4, but not much.

Or a 2 inch body lift.

Either one isnt to expensive.

Are these easy to install? In other words, do I need to have it professionally done, or can the weekend mechanic do it?

Hmm, we must have all been replying at the same time pretty much
No one had replied when I went to.

If you are confident, have good mechanic skills etc, you shouldnt have a problem installing any of these yourself.
If you use a leveling kit or the spindles the only thing you would need to take it to a shop for is to get it aligned.

No one makes lift spindles for the 04-05 F-150 4x2's, yet.

Do you think they will eventually come out?

This is the height of my 2wd 01 Supercrew with 3 1/2 in spindle in front and a 2in block in back. (the 33in tires give it a little more lift too)

compared to stock

I doubt that lift spindles will be made for the new trucks. My reasoning is that if the design of the new trucks suspension allowed a lift by simpley replacing the spindles, someone would already make them. The full suspension lifts still include drop-down brackets, new knuckles (also known as spindles on 4x2's) as well as new coilover shocks or spacers for the OEM coilovers.

What exactly did you use?

Your truck looks nice. That's exactly what I want to do to my 01 2WD.

Did you do the installation yourself?

Installed the lift myself, along with a friend and the help from f150online members (again I must acknowledge my thanks to Wandell)
The installation is fairly simple as long as you have some sort of familiarity with vehicles.

With that particular set up my 33x12.5in tires rubbed pretty bad. For two reasons, the spindle lift pushes the front tires out a little and the tires are 12.5in wide. I had to put another 1.5in of lift a trim a little to stop the rubbing. If you get just the spindle you might want to get smaller or thinner tires.

I think it was about $700 for the spindle, 2in blocks with U-bolts, 4 brand new shocks (well the cheap fabtech ones), and a alignment cam kit.

to get it as tall as a 4wd, go with the spindles and a 2 inch block kit. I just put on my fabtech 3.5 inch spindles with 2 inch blocks and all new Rancho shocks last week, and its sits a tad bit higher in the front than my dad's truck which is identical to mine, except its a 4wd.
