drop kit prices
I am looking to drop my truck, but the labor pricing is a little more than what I was expecting. For a 2/4 drop, I have been qutoed $1825 and $1040. I was wondering what you guys have been quoted to see how common this is. This is the labor only. Does not include supplies.
That price sounds way off to me. What type of kit are you going with, springs or A-arms, with shackles and hangers? The hardest part with the shackles and hangers are the rivets, which most of the time have to be cut or punched out. I would definitely go somewhere else if you don't think you could attempt it.
The lightning section will have detailed info for your situation. However....
The average new quality made front springs, rear hangers/shackles and shock kit cost will cost about $350 - $500 (or more depending on shocks). Shop labor should be $300 - $500 including alignment.
To lower a lightning, most are changing the front springs, adding a rear lowering shackle and going to Q1A shocks.
If you change control arms or get the pending spindles or change the leafsprings in your system, you might see a max. labor charge of $500.
It appears that on average a lowering kit/shocks/install/alignment total price is about $700 - $1200 depending on which components you use.
Over $1000 for the labor to install a 2/4 drop?????? Run from those shops!

The first copmany did not tell me the company of dropkit they would use, but from what I have heard, and slighty seen in experiences, they use the "best" in their opinion. An extremely respected company, but ALWAYS overpriced. The second company said the price was for a Belltech or a Ground Force drop. All the parts already included in the kit: coils, hangers/shackle kit, front rear shocks. But I am looking to buy some drop coils, shackles and hangers. I am also under the impression that will get me the full drop I want. (info provided by SportTruckDirect.com)
Belltech (BT) and Ground Force (GF) are some of the best kits. Major difference is that BT uses constant rate coil springs and GF uses progressive rate coil springs. I thought I wanted progressive rate springs, until some reported that they are too soft. A soft spring is just as bad as too stiff a spring. However, Lightning guys seem to get the GF kit. I think BT puts out the best overall kits. To me, their springs are closes to stock in ride quality.
Sorry, but over $1,000 for just the labor to install either the BT or GF kits is far too much! Run!

Labor to install front coils, rear hangers and shackles and front/rear shocks, should cost no more than $500, including the alignment. However, if you trust them, they are good at lower truck suspensions and they "tweek it" until you are satisfied with the steering, any price a person can afford will be the deal for them.

A lightning is already 1 inch lower in the front than a regular F150. It also depends on your overall tire diameter and what kind of tire to fender spacing you want.
If it was me, I would try the rear shackles first and see if you want to go lower in the front and rear.
If you do want to go lower after the rear shackle, you will will AT LEAST need front lowering coils, lowering shocks and alignment. I would also install the upper control arm camber kits because you never know until its too late if you need them or not.
