DANG Torsion Bars Are Cranked Way Up (now what??)

Bought a 4.6L, 4x4, 5 speed, 2003 F150 super cab with 285's on it. Somebody has cranked the torsion bars and added a leaf in the rear. (Thats what the Ford place tells me anyway) The cranked torsion bars cause a vibration while in 4 wheel drive. Not to mention the amount of power lose I've recieved from such large tires. Yeah, it looks good and all, but I want to put it back to stock again. My main question is how do I know when I have the torsion bars set back at the STOCK LOCATION AGAIN? I can take the add a leaf out of the rear, but I have NO clue about torsion bars. I know I'll have to have the front end aligned again after cranking the bars back down. DO you think the alignment place would know the stock location of the torsion bars and could set them back?? Thanks guys.

They are all set differently from the factory. I'd remove the add-a-leaf and then adjust the torsion bars to where you have the ride height you desire. Then get an alignment.

I just put a leveling kit on my 2002 Supercrew FX4, Before I started I marked the bolts so I could put them back the same, I had just over 1/2" of threads showing on the bolt for the torsion keys. The front of my truck was about 1 1/2" lower that the rear. Les Schwab tolds me that 1/2" either way won't affect your alignment so if you decide to adjust it again after your alignment you'll be ok. Just f.y.I.
