Has anyone cranked up there torsion bars on there f150, i got a 01 4X4 with a 3" lift and i want the front end to sit up a bit higher, my local truck shop said theyd do it no probs and would align the front end after for pretty cheap, is it really bad, i dont go deep into the trails, a little mud and mostly for looks....?

I did it myself. I just maid sure i did it evenly. I havent had the time to get it aligned but to be honest with you, it doesnt look off. But, it is worth it. The ride sharpens up a bit but not too bad.

Go ahead and do it. These trucks looks much better when they are level (I guess any truck does )

Make sure you get it aligned. It can "look" like it is straight and the steering wheel might still be lined up, but your camber or toe in or other adjustments can be out of spec and cause irregular tire wear. If you ask me, unless you want new tires sooner, a $50 alignment is worth the extra thousands of miles youll get out of your tires.

Thanks for the help. So you suggest going and getting it aligned. Also, did you torque your torsion bars and how much did you go? Just curious.

I put the add-a-leaf on the rear suspension and it raised the back about 3.5-4 inches so I cranked up my torsion bars. It rides a little rougher but, it's a truck, it's not suppose to ride like a car. I didn't have the front end aligned and I haven't noticed any premature tire wear. I have about 10000 miles on since I cranked them up and the tires look fine. I just rotate them about every 3000 miles. Hope this helps.

Yes I would get it aligned afterwards.
I didnt crank my torsion bars. Either the previous owner did it, or it already sits fairly level as far as I can tell. Either way, I havent touched them (although there are still plenty of threads left on there if I wanted).

Canadian, I cranked up the bars on my 03 last week. Spray a little penetrant on the threads and let it sit for about 15-30 minutes before you crank them up. Makes it a tad easier and it'll help clean out the threads when you turn em' up. I think it was an 18mm socket I used on my impact to crank them up, took me about 15 minutes with air. If you're going by hand, turn clockwise (tighten) on both sides and she'll start going up. The ride gets a little stiffer, but not anything really noticeable. I didn't tell my wife that I cranked them just to see if she'd complain about the ride. She hasn't noticed so I chalk it up the ride quality as being just fine!

Dino, you can just start cranking them up with the truck on the ground. You'll want to measure both sides before you start and measure as you go anyways to keep both sides level. It would be a pain to have to lift the truck up and down a 100 times to measure everything as you went.
