Replacing Upper Ball Joint on 97 F150
Replacing Upper Ball Joint on 97 F150
I have to replace the both upper and lower ball joints on my 97 F-150. What kind of tools will I need so the job won't take a week to do. I was told at the auto parts store that it was dangerous to change the upper ball joint if I never done it before. It that true?
If I remember correctly, one or both of the ball joints are integral to the control arms. You'd have to replace the entire control arm, which is quite a bit more expensive. I'm sure someone else will reply with more specifics as to this question. This may be dependent on whether you have a 4x4 or a 2WD, so if you can post that info it'd probably be helpful, along with engine size and any other pertinent info.As to whether or not it's dangerous, any performance on your vehicle, especially if you've never done that particular job before, is potentially dangerous. Just make sure you have a good guide/manual, all the proper tools, and someone there to help, if at all possible.
Good luck.

I have to do mine too, heres wht i know so far the upper joint is connect to the control arm so when you buy the part the arm nd joint come together of course you will have 2 part numbers one for each side. second the lower joint is just the joint and is universal for both sides.
Go to summit racing to order 50.00 for the uppers 30 for the lowers. and with summit you get Moog parts which are the best
Tools, well I have been told that I may need some kind of huge C clamp but thats it. Its apprently not that complicated but i bought a Hayes shop manual anyway. Ive heard that the tie rod ends can be a pain, but everyone ive talked to so far says its fairly simple.
