Question sealed wheel bearings 4X4

Have an 02' F150 4X4 RC SB with 32K.....when would be a good time to replace the front wheel bearings? used the search, didn't see a maintenance target(miles) #.

thanks

I am not a mechanic, but I thought only the 2WD trucks had wheel bearings in the front.??

You can try to grease some areas up front, (although ford did not provide any fittings) but that is about it.

LMAO, not quite. EVERY vehicle made, no matter the make, model, or year has wheel bearings. If its got wheels on it each one has a bearing. Now the 2wd does have serviceable bearings, but like the original post mentions the 4x4 are a sealed unit. There is no replacement schedule for them, just replace them as they go out. They are an expensive part ($250+) so unless one has failed I would not replace it. Fords idea in this case was to use a sealed bearing and somehow make its service life longer than a serviceable bearing. Unfortunetly real life doesn't work that way.

4x4 front wheel bearings are not serviceable. Until you hear them start to roar, then I would replace them. My truck has 135,000 and no problems yet.

Not every vehicle made had wheel bearings, horse drawn wagons used leather straps soaked in grease.

So when they started to groan I guess you killed a buffalo or cow and made new ones.....

Actually, those wagons' leather straps WERE bearings, they just weren't "roller bearings"
