differences in a Fabtech 7.5" lift
I was looking on the Fabtech website for a F150 2wd lift. I saw that theree is a 7.5" performance cossmember system, and a 7.5" Ultimate Long Travel System. I was wondering what the difference was between the both of them. Also I was wondering if I can add a body lift to either one. Any information is appreciated..
from what i understand, the crossmember system uses just that, a new lower crossmember in order to use the same lower control arms, just positioned lower. The long travel system uses all new longer upper and lower control arms, i think, please correct me if i am wrong anyone.
I do know for a fact that you can put body lifts with both of these kits, in fact, body lifts fit with all types of suspension, either stock or lifted, b/c they have nothing to do with the suspension itself, they just raise the body off the frame.

The difference between these two lifts is the suspension travel. I just emailed Fabtech and asked about there long travel kit and the said it adds 4-7 inches of suspension travel to stock which would be better off roading. The cross member lift just simply makes the truck taller.

The long travel kit has upper and lower control arms with new tie rod extenders. It extends ur wheel base a little furthure which means to get full performance you need fiberglass fenders. The kit is hard on ball-joints; get the lifetime warranty Napa ones. The other kit is upper arms coils and spindles, just like the other kit, but with less usable travel.
We put the 7.5" long travel kit on a 1999 F150 along with a 3" body lift kit and aside from this great desire to add motor home steps, have found it really serves our off roading purposes very well. Aside from the lift combo and 38" Super Swampers, the Mastercraft suspension seats have been best adds we've done! Sure saves the on the punishment on the bod!
Coupled with the suspension seats I've gone over a 2' road berm at over 60mph and hardly noticed it. I talked with a Fabtech engineer who lives in my area, about putting on a prototype coil over suspension, but even at his/Fabtech's "cost" I might have to rob a bank! hah-hah, but it sure would
be trick! On the road I notice the ride from the tires, both sound and feel but while not a sports car, it handles the curves pretty well.

Cookie, the only problem I've had was the right front axle sheered off the spindle! I talked with Fabtech and they wanted the spindle back, big time(Kept asking if anyone was hurt! heh-heh) Luckily I was on the old road by Magic Mountain and the spindle ground into the pavement and stopped me, since the axle, brake assembly and right front wheel and tire had shot across all lanes of traffic at 55mph! (amazing isn't it that when the right front brake line gets snapped you can't stop! heh-heh) Found the wheel and tire the next day several hundred yards away. Thank goodness no one was hurt!
