Axels, Please Help
Axels, Please Help
i got a 12' susp and a 3" body lift. sitting on 44" boggers on my 95 f-150 5.0. Almost ready for off roading but im worried about axles does anybody know what my stock axles are and what would u recomend putting in instead... do i want straight axel in front? what size for front and rear?..., and what about lockers do i want something like a detroit locker or what.
Upgrade to Dana 60 Front, Dana 70 rear
Sounds like you're going to be doing some serious off-roading. I've been researching and talking to a lot of people about stuff like this too.
I plan on upgrading to a Dana 70 Rear axle, Dana 60 Front axle and running 8" susp/3" body lifts. I am probably going to use a 36" Super Swamper Radial TSL.
Detroit Lockers are good and very strong and Boggers are the best mud tire out there...but, if you plan on driving on the road any more than once a week (to and from the mud hole), well...boggers and detroits can be driven on road...but the boggers are vibration prone.
If you really plan on doing some heavy-duty offroading, get a selectable locker/lockout hubs for the front and either a detroit locker for the rear or a selectable locker for the rear. The detroit up front is not a good idea unless you plan on doing mud-bog racing ONLY.
Full floating axles are nice, because if you break an axle on the trail you can just remove the axle, winch out, and continue to safety and get a new axle.
Did I mention that you should consider getting a winch?
