Installing shocks

My roommate gave me his stock shocks from his 03 f150-hd. His new ones came compressed and had to remove something once installed. Is there anyway to install the used shocks on my truck without having to compress them? Is there any easy way to compress them?

Installing them on a 97 F-150

Thanks in advance.

Yup, the compression bands don't make a huge difference anyway. You need jackstands as well as a jack. Raise up the truck and put a jackstand under the frame so the axle hangs, then use the jack to raise and lower the axle for your install.

Remove the lower shock bolt first, then the upper. On install, attach the upper first and then the lower.

I agree with Rocky. I had one, that was a little tougher then the rest, I just used a jack to the bottom of the shock to align it/support it.
