Popping felt in stering wheel

Hey Guys, I have a 2001 Supercrew 4x4 and lately i have noticed a popping or clunk that can be felt in the steering wheel (feels like the steering shaft is pushing back and forth) This is most noticable when turning at slow speeds and driving over rough roads.I have checked the steering shaft and column and wheel, the ball joints, tie rod ends and pitman arm all seem normal. any suggestions? thanks

If you've check the steering shaft, you've covered my guess. Does it do it once from center to stop or once every 90 or 180 degrees of steering wheel turn?

When you checked the ball joints, did you do it with the truck jacked up, and the load taken off the lower control arm? If not, you need to do so.
