Crossmember??

I have a lifted 1994 f150. Ever since i got it the truck had a hard time turning to the right.I took it in the shop the other day to get checked out..They said the crossmember is cracked really bad and needs replaced. How much does a new one cost?Is it a hard job to do?

Thanks for the help/info in advance.

Which crossmember are you refering to, the engine or the radius arm? It makes a huge difference as to the difficulty of the swap.

You can get a new one from a junkyard for not much money, but get ready for a complete teardown of the truck. In order to replace the crossmember the engine will have to come out (yep thats right, you get to pull the engine). After thats out it will be easiest to work on if you remove the fenders and all framework from the front. Basically tear down the whole front end to nothing but an axle and frame. After thats done you'll have to drill out the rivets on teh crossmember. Once thats done its easiest if you put a hilift jack in the frame to spread it slightly. This will let you slide the old one out. Once thats out slide the new one in and use bolts to keep it in place. After all that just reassemble everything. Simple huh

This is not going to be an easy project by any means if you've never done anything like this before as its very involved. For most people you're looking at 1-2 days, since I can get my engine in my Ranger (same suspension and crossmember as yours just smaller) out in about 1-2hrs this job is about 1/2 a day.
