Pitman arm Idler arm Question

Are the balljoints on the pitman and idler arm both supposed to articulate (mis-align) or do they just rotate back and forth.

I'm trying to understand why Ford chose to attach the centerlink to the idler and pitman using balljoints which lets the centerlink rotate fore and aft causing bumpsteer.

?!?

Well the pittman and idler arms do misalign somewhat. That is what makes the radius when you turn. The ball joints enhance the turning.

?!?
