Screw Heavy Duty Torsion Bars

I have read that the Screws have a shorter Torsion bar. Is this correct? If it is does anyone know why. I would like to put plow on front of F-150 for personal use and would like to upgrade to the 7700# GVWR torsion bars (Code 7). However I have heard that the screws have a shorter torsion bar and that to install other bars for any other F-150 than a Screw. I would have to move rear mounting crossmember. That would not be problem. I realize that FoMoCo spends a lot of $$ on R&D and would like to know why they would engineer these units (super crews aka. screws) to require a different length of torsion bar. I would think it would be quite an expense for them considering the number of F-150's they sell. If anyone has any FoMoCo background (engineers,employees,mechanics) I would like to know before I spend $ and change my ride into something that was better before the mod. Thanks..

You are correct about the difference in torsion bars. I do not know for sure why the Screw's torsion bars are shorter. I have been told it is to give the Screw a better ride. This makes sense. Most people buy the Screw because they have more of a need to haul people rather than stuff. Therefore, they would be more concerned with ride quality. This makes sense to me.

A shorter bar will be stiffer (higher spring rate) than a longer bar of the same diameter. Maybe they did that because the Screw has more weight on the front end than a standard or x-cab?

I'm not sure, but I think the torsion bars on Screws are a smaller diameter than the ones on the other trucks.

I have heard that the screw bars are shorter to give a smoother ride. The bar is shorter but has the same weight rating 3950# as the supercab trucks. The F250LD torsion bar is rated at 4150# according to my spec sheet. Let us know how this works out, i am thinking of upgrading my scew torsion bars to help stiffen up the front end.

hey yall, about 7 months ago i swapped my stock t-bars for the 3/4 ton bars.I had to relocate the crossmember to the rear since the new bars are longer.but the factory holes are there,all you have to do is unbolt the crossmember and move it back.all in all it took about 2 hours from start to finish using air tools.I did notice a little stiffer ride but that was what i was after.
