Rear end Lowering/Leveling

I'm a newbie here, so yall be gentle on my first post. Nor am I super mechanically inclined, so reply accordingly. Now onto the question section of this rant....

My Specs: 2004 F150 Screw Lariat

As I read the posts on leveling I see alot mentioned about raising the front end suspension with spacers, but not a whole lot on leveling by droping the rear. My assumption is that it is much more of a "project" do this and probably much more $ as well. Am I correct?

I like the look of a leveled truck, but don't have any reason to lift it. I am 99% city driving and may tow a boat twice a year, so lift is not something I am after. Nor am I anxious to make the truck more difficult for my 5 year old to climb in and out of.

I can handle an inexpensive project with good instructions and basic tools. Anymore than that and it just won't happen. Advise???

It's easily accomplished with a lowering shackle for under $100 and less than an hour of work.

Thanks suds! Once I learned the term "shackle" I was able to do a good search and get all the info I needed.

On the 2" shackle, what is the concensus out there on the necessity for the shims? Anyone not use them and have trouble? Or should I just put them on so I don't worry about it?

Most of the time you don't need a shim on a 2" shackle drop, but I can't swear to that on an '04.
