leveling kit
leveling kit
what is the purpose of a leveling kit for a 2WD f150 ('98) does it just bring the front end up like a 4WD or is it higher. I dont like the way the truck slants from back to front. If a leveling kit wont fix this, please tell me what will.

The leveling kit will level out the truck but not completely. I believe the 04 fords have a 3 to 4" rake. The leveling kit will allow more clearance in the fender wells to allow up to 33" tires. However, you will still have a 1" rake which is a good thing as you will still be able to haul a load without looking like you are doing a wheely when loaded. It's basicly a cheap way to get a 2.5" lift. You will not improve the suspension in any way though.
If I am wrong in any way, I'm sure someone will correct me.

I'd like to try and clear up a misconception here. A suspension lift kit in its simplest form does not allow for bigger tires unless it comes with different bump stops. Lifting a vehicle simply gives you more suspension travel in most instances. I crank up the torsion bars on my 00 4x4 I may be able to shoe horn in those 305's but they'll still rub when I go offroading and I'm off camber and turning my wheel. If you lift a vehicle and you do alter the point at which the bump stops limit the amount of travel then yes you can put on larger tires. A body lift and/or fender trimming is the correct way to make room for larger tires. For everyone that's going to yell at me Yes you can crank up the bars, install the tires and drive around on the street to your heart's content without rub. I know, but I want to make sure people understand what a lift does.
I am interstred in one for my 2002 4x2 as well. I am saving for a 6" Fabtech kit, but if a leveling kit makes it look a little better, then i am all for that in the meantime. Who makes a good quality leveling kit, and can i install it in my driveway (well, really, i would install it ON the truck IN the driveway, you understand, just nod..)
Uncle Jess,
I recently put a 2" daystar leveling kit in my 2002 4x2 supercrew. It really leveled out the truck nice and kept the smooth factory ride. The daystar spacer was very easy to install, and I have never done any work at all on my truck before. Daystar does advertise and sell a 1.5" spacer, but a local shop in my town has daystar make a 2" spacer special for them that will set the truck dead level. You may be able to call daystar direct and ask for it or I am sure my local shop would mail it out if you are interested. It was also recommened to me to replace the front shocks and put in new camber bolts to allow for accurate. allighnment. The spacer was only about $75 if I remember. Good luck!
