4x4 swap

i got a 1964 f-100 and was wondrin if yall knew how hard it would be to swap in a front axle and conver it to 4x4.
i know i need a transfer case, transmission, and axle. i was thinkin all i owuld need to do is swap the tranny in and put the axel on the front leafs. the front right now has a single Ibeam with leaf springs...

any ideas if its worth it? im planning on either going the 4x4 route and restore it, or ditch the 4x4 and put air bags on and slam it and rod it out

You're going to have to measure the width and spacing of the leaf springs to see if its going to work. Most likely you'll have to modify the axle to make it work. As far as what axle to use you can go with a D44HD as they're leaf sprung already, but they're 8lug and most likely a wider track width than your current axles. For my money I'd look at the D44 axles from an early bronco. Most were coil sprung, but a few I've seen have been leaf sprung. You could also use a D30 from an EB, though it won't be as strong. If you're willing to do a little more fabrication work you can make the coil sprung D44 EB version into a leaf sprung version. If it was me I'd look more into converting the truck to a coil sprung front suspension. For the most part its a smoother ride and better offroad performance. It wouldn't be very hard at all to convert to that style suspension as long as you have all the suspension parts off the donor vehicle.

sorry its been a while since ive been on here, but its got a 302 out of an '84 lincoln with an AOD automatic behind it with a 9" rear. im still in a state of limbo with what im gonna do with it cause all these ideas and dreams keep popping in my head. for now i think im just gonna primer it black and make it look old school since it doesnt cost that much money but in the meantime start saving up so i can do it right.

oh and this is kinda off topic but my friend just scored a '46 ford truck for free and its just a weeee bit worn in...*understatement of the century* does anyone know where we could find parts to it?
