front axels
In the year you're looking at the F150 uses a coil sprung TTB axle and the F250 uses either a D44HD TTB or D50 TTB axle, both leaf sprung. I would highly suggest NOT swapping in either of those axles. Its not a bolt on conversion and its one of the worst suspension designs that Ford has used to date. The coil sprung versions are ok, but the leaf sprung versions will cause fractures in the frame rails around where the leaf springs attach due to the way they twist under axle movement. You will also end up with an 8lug pattern on the front. Your friends conversion is a bolt on, as would yours be if you went with a coil sprung D44TTB axle. I would suggest that if you really want to one up him swap in a solid D44 axle. Just find a D44 from a 77-79 F150 or 78-79 Bronco. They're reverse rotation gear sets with disk brakes. They're also easy to find. I know of a complete 78 F150 chasis for $300. The D44 swap is almost a bolt in application for you if you get all the parts from the donor truck. Its possible to do the swap for $200-300 on an 80-96 F150 depending on deals you come across and how much you build up the axle. I'm doing a similar swap on my Ranger with a D44 and 9" and I'll have about $500 in my axles, bearings, seals, hubs, new brakes, disk brake conversion for the 9", and the mini spool.
