How do I check ball-joints?

How do you check the front ball joints on a 94 f150? thanks

jack up one side and grab the tire on the top and bottom and try to move it, any movement should indicate a problem, that is what I would do first,

Jack underneath the A arm and watch the ball joint for movement. If the ball joint is loose the A arm will move up but the wheel will stay still.
