By cranking up the torsion bars you will be able to run 33's. Yes its safe to do it, GET an alginment after doing it. The front end will be stiffer as well.

Just lift the front of the truck off the ground and turn the adjustment bolt in a turn at the time untill you get the height you want. Just make sure to turn each adjustmnt bolt the same number of turns.

Most 285/75-16's and 285/70-17's are just a hair shy of 33 inches tall, or right at 33 inches tall. Essentially they are 33x11.50's. The exact height can be found on the website of the particular tire you are looking at.

Gerry,

I also want to get a set of 285*70*17 for my stock 17's. What tires are you getting? How much are they?

If you can please post some pics and let me know how the torsion bar adjustment went. I plan on adjusting mine too when I get the tires.

Thanks

Hi Wandell,

I too plan to adjust my torsion bars. By the look of the pic you posted, the bolt to turn looks like a 3/4" or so bolt. Since I have never done this before I may sound like a DA for asking, but her it goes anyway:

I suspect you just turn the bolt either clockwise or counter to gain height. But by the looks of the bolt length, how much gain is actually possible? From the looks of it would you say a gain of 1/2 to 3/4 inch?

thanks !

Oh one more thing, if the front end is raised, what about the back? If the front is raised will it look taller than the back?

I fit 33x12.50x17 MT Baja MTX tires under my 01 Supercab 4x4 with no lift or torsion bar crank. In fact I there is about 2" clearence from my fron valance. The torsion bar adj. screw is 18mm, I suggest having a 1/2 drive ratch with a long handle has it it hard to turn. Remeber to mark the bolt so you can count the number of turns.

Every truck is set a little different. You can usually gain 1 to 2 inches of lift. Most people do this to level the front with the rear. If you want to raise the rear, install a taller lift block or add-a-leaf.

Thanks for the reply Wandell. 1" to 2 " sounds good to me. I'll have to get under and see how much I can raise mine.

Make sure when you turn them, to keep track of the turns!!! I did mine by watching the clicks on the socket, that way I knew I was getting both sides even.
