Question Lift and now problems...

a little while ago i installed a 3" spindle lift with new shocks on my truck and everything rode fine... a couple weeks after that i got 2" lift coils, installed them (which if it helps any weren't any longer than stock coils, just stiffer) and ever since i've installed them when i hit bumps (even small ones) i get a clanking noise, almost like something's loose. so i've taken the wheel off and looked and nothing appeared loose, i'm hoping someone here has an answer for me. when i look at the suspension geometry it's definitely off from where it was originally (i'm not sure if this would play into the clanking any), so i didn't know if i needed to get some new upper control arms, or maybe a crossmember to drop the lower control arms, or what... thanks for any help, i may post a pic of what the setup looks like if i get a chance tomorrow. thanks again

it's a fairly stiff ride, not uncomfortable but stiffer than it was stock...

You have changed the angle of the axles coming out of the front differential.I also put a 3''body lift kit plus daystar 2.5 ich spacer(stock coils) and now i feel a tremendous steering wheel vibration and whole body vibration.I think the solution is to install an angled joint between diff and the axles for both front and the rear drivetrain. But i am still learning and studying so i amnot sure

we got to experience hurricane ivan on friday here in ohio and was gone all day saturday riding horses so i'll try to get some pics up either tomorrow or monday, i think they'd probably be helpful. i'm getting some feedback from the other site (for V6 guys that is) that it may have something to do with the coils not being seated correctly (and i'm going to check my ball joints out too while i'm checking that). i'll get them pics up asap. thanks

I suggest looking into this thread https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...5&pagenumber=2 I know you dont have a lightning, but I even had an oblong hole and you probably will to. I also HIGHLY recommend either checking yourself, or getting your upper and lower ball joints checked. The lower ones are THE most likely to be out since they carry the wieght. Also you should check for play in your idler arm. Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply, don't think it's the oval hole thing, but i think i will check out getting a cambolt kit and checking out the ball joints (when i get some cash). how hard is it to change ball joints on your own? any instructions? thanks

Did you install the lift? I had this same problem and the spring needed to be reset. I am currently have this same problem on my new truck.

did you grind off the triangle piece of your upper-a arms? That may be hitting your bumbstop and causing a noise. Do you have a problem with your tires leaning out after you put the coils on? I think it is called caster? I installed leveling coils on my 97 f150 and now my front tires sit at an angle that looks like shizit. Where do you get those castor bolt kits?

nah, i get the bump stop noise too, but that's just on bigger bumps... i don't have any trouble with my tires sitting at an angle, they look fine to me. thanks though
