Thanx

After reading thread upon thread upon thread, I've decided to install a 3" body lift to my 03 FX4. I figure doing that and cranking up my torsion bars to level the front end should give me the ride and clearance I am looking for. 1 question left. What size tire should I go with to finish the look?

I'd suggest a 33x12.50 or a 35x12.50 on a 16x10, 17x10 or 18x10 inch rim. The rim diameter is a personal choice. Larger rims are in style, but they and the tires cost more. I'd look at my powertrain when deciding between 33's and 35's and whether or not you want to regear. Also, look at how you use your truck, for instance do you tow or haul heavy loads on a regular basis? If I had a 5.4 and 3.73 gears, I'd go with 35's. Any other powertrain combo and you will probably want to regear to get your stock performance back.

Hey wandell, thanx for the reply. I've read a lot of postings with your name attatched to them. Most of my thanx goes out to you for what you've told other people with similar questions. I'm runnin' 17s and I'll probably stick with those. I haven't checked my width yet. As far as towing, nothing more than a 14' aluminium or a moose now and then. My truck is mostly used for camping, hunting, fishing, that sort of thing. Re gearing? I probably don't need to if I go with the 33s right? How about the 35s? Would I need to then? Any sugestions about an exhust upgrade? What about chipping it?

Like I said, a lot of people are running 35's with the 5.4 and 3.55 gears. Some say the performance is OK, some say it bites. I don't recall hearing anyone rave about the performance. What engine and gears do you have. Personally, I'm happy with my 5.4's performance with 33's and 3.55 gears, but I'm hesitant to go up to a 35 inch tire.

I'm running a 4.6. I couldn't find any 5.4s when I was shopping around and I was hoping to find something that wouldn't cost a fortune to drive. Installed a K&N kit and looking for a exhaust upgrade. My bro's a parts manager for ford so I'm pricing a super charger.
