Noise when turning?

I have a '99 Supercab 4x4. Sometimes when I turn I get a noise in my front end. Its the sound you get like when you have the wheels turned as far as they'll go and you're pulling into a parking space or something. It only does this sometimes, but it's on small turns, nothing too sharp. Any ideas what causes this or how to fix it?

Thanks,
Matt

Is it a loud poping sound, grinding sound or whining sound? A poping sound can be the result of the lower rear right control arm movin during suspension movement. Whining sound could be normal from the power steering. And grinding could be a rubbing problem.

I don't know how to desribe it exactly. I'd say it's a whine mostly but it isn't high pitched at all. It just sounds like it's being overturned/steered but it's not because these are just smaller turns I'm making.

New here, but thought I'd respond as I had the same problem.
The tech said that the "eeek-eeek" sound is actually made by the power steering hose being pinched off during the turn.

When I asked if the constant pinching could wear down the hose, the tech said yes but Ford has no intentions of fixing the problem.

Sounds like your pitman arm needs to be lubed or replaced. Easy and cheap fix either way.

I would definitely check the Pitman arm. I had the same issue for over a year and it progressively got worse. After paying a shop to fix the problem, and they didn’t I R&R’d the pitman arm. Just do a search by Pitman arm here; you’ll find some valuable information.

Good luck

I had the same ungodly noise, and after reading this forum about this issue, I climbed under the truck and lubed the pitman arm and that god awful noise that I've been listening to for the last month is GONE !!!

I didnt even need to take it apart. I just used a needle attachment on the end of my grease gun and squirted it up and around the pivot areas. No more issues.

Thanks !!
