"Pop" from front end when starting out

I've got a 2004 STX SCab, 4.6/3.55/5,000 miles. Love the truck. However, I have this problem when starting out in the morning or any time truck has sat still for a few hours. At first I thought it was my imagination (new truck, new payment book, bad thoughts). It seems to have become more frequent, though (started at maybe about 1,000 miles). The truck almost feels like it's on a bind, and then I feel and hear a "pop" from the front end and it feels ok. The "pop" happens while turning or straight, no pattern. It seems like it used to do it within the first few hundred yards of moving forward (especially in the turn a few hundred yards down the road), but now does it even when backing out of the driveway. It's got me puzzled. I assume it is suspension-related, because the truck almost feels like it's in 4H while turning until (and sometimes for a short time after) the "pop". I would like to take it to the dealer, but first would like to know if anyone else has had the same issue and if anyone has any ideas. Sorry about the long post, thanks in advance. Great site.

Is there a possibility that this could simply be a sticking front hub or cv joint? Something in the 4WD that is not disengaging?

Check the bolts on the underside of the A-arms

I had a problem similar to this. My truck would pop when I backed up and/or turned.

Took it to the dealership and got a shiny new set of ball joints Driving out of the dealership, guess what. . . it popped.

So, I got home, crawled under and check all the bolts on the underside of the A-arms. One of them was loose. Tightened the sucker up and never had it pop since. The culprit was the rear bolt on the drivers side.

Hope this helps.

Could be a loose shock

I have a similar sound on the used F150 I recently purchased. After examination I discovered that the right front shock was missing the rubber bearing on the bottom bolt. Every time I did any hard acceleration the shock would pop when it hit against the bolt holding it on. You might want to check that as well.
