Wheel vibration
Wheel vibration
Over the past 10000 miles or so, i have been experiencing a vibration that seems to be coming from the right front wheel area. I took the truck in to the Ford dealership and they told me that it seemed to be the tires causing the vibration, so I left with the problem unresolved. I have had them balanced and rotated twice, replaced inner and outer wheel bearings on right front wheel, done a visual inspection, and have had no luck. The vibration becomes very evident around 45-50 mph and seems to smooth out around 70mph. When I go over a dip or bump in the road and the load is lifted from the wheel, the vibration changes as the truck bounces. The vibration is barely felt in the steering wheel and shifter and there doesnt seem to be any problem with wandering or drift. Does this sound like a front end alignment problem or what? Any suggestions are welcome. The truck is an '01 F150 Sport v6 with 75000 miles.
what tire and wheel setup do you have now?
If it were me i would take my old/stock tires and put them on and test it. If it doesnt fix it then you might wanna get your front end aligned. Also if you adjusted your torsion bar way up it probably threw your camber way off and that could also be causing it. And if its not one of those it sounds like you have a serious and expensive problem.

Sounds like a balance problem, just went through the same thing with my 00 expy 4x4 what size tires and wheels are you running ? I had to take mine to a 4 wheel part center to have them ballanced correctly and it worked
Had the same problem with my '02 Sport Trac. The frame was apparently just barely in spec from the factory (stock). When I addedd slightly larger after-market wheels and lowered the truck 2", the camber could not be properly adjusted without putting the truck on a frame stretcher. If this turns out to be your problem, get rid of the truck. The minute you put that thing on a frame stretcher, you decrease its trade-in value to damn near zero.
Probably not alignment causing the vibration. Hopefully it is just tire balance. I have had the same problem before. Take it to a different tire shop and have them re-balance. I have found that some shops are better than others. Another possibility is a bent rim.
yo wassup. hey it has to be a bent rim. another possibility is the ford garage. 1. stupid high school dropouts and cars dont mix. 2 if u had them balanced 2x, it has to be a bent rim since the wheel bearings were fixed. you might find an rim at a junk yard or autozone.

Take them to a tire shop and asked to have them roller balanced. This will give you a road force rating in lbs/sq. inch and basically tells you how out-of-round your tires are. I currently work at Les Schwab (west coast guys will be familiar with the company) and can have this done for free. I'm not sure how other tire stores work, but if a customer buys his/her tires from us, all balancing, including roller, is free of charge. If your local tire store doesn't work this way, you might be paying close to $50 to have this performed. However, I was having a serious vibration problem that normal balancing wouldn't fix. I roller balanced my stock Goodyear tires and found that two of them had a road force of 65. . . anything upwards of 35 is bad. I ended up buying a set of used tires to solve my problem. On the bright side, I now am running 285/70/17's, so I got an upgrade out of the deal

Wheel Vibration - same problem
I have the same problem with a 2000 F150, XLT super crew (17" wheels) - vibration in the right front. The other odd thing about it is that the vibration may not occur for several days but then re-occur randomly. I'll feel it at around 40 MPH and higher and if I come to a complete stop and take off again it will sometimes go away.
I rotated the tires but this didn't help. I will now try to have all the tires rebalanced. If that doesn't work I'll have the alignment checked.
If you find the problem, I'd love to hear it and any other suggestions would be be appreciated.
