Suspension popping noises???
Suspension popping noises???
I have a 2001 F150 4X4, Super Cab, Short Box, 5.4L Engine, 6" Fabtech Suspension Lift, 4.10 gears, 315/75/16 BFG MTs. Lift/tires/gears have been on truck for less apprx 6 months. Over this time, a "popping" noise has developed (progressively getting worse) under the truck when pulling into a parking spot or when taking off (low speeds). The noise is apparent when there is body shift...braking or slight acceleration. Sounds like maybe a very squeaky/dry bushing??? Sounds like the noise is coming from the bars that come back from front suspension to frame...where the bars attach to frame.
Anyone else ever experience this? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jeremy

Sounds like you are talking about the front torsion bars. There are no bushings that I'm aware of on them.. Each end just slips into a hex shaped "keyway" and the rear is where you can adjust the tension by turning the large bolt.
Now, with the lift kit, it does lower the entire assembly using brackets and such so it could be that there is some additional "flex" in there someplace that's causing the noise you are hearing??
That's gonna be a hard one to pin point, as it sounds like there has to be a twising of the frame for it to occur, and it'll be pretty hard to lay underneath while that's happening!!
Could be one of the front suspension bushings too. Were the A arm bushings replaced? Are they the urethane type?
Good luck with this and your gear ratio issue too......
