Upgrading shocks
Upgrading shocks
I have 63k miles on my '98 and I'm still running the OEM shocks. I'm thinking of upgrading to the Ranchos. My question is, since I drive 99% city/highway will I still see an improvement with the cheaper RS5000 shocks instead of spending $50 more on the RSX? How is the ride compared to stock? I'm a poor college student on a tight budget so every penny counts!
Thanks

I am pretty happy with the RSX's, they perform great on all terrains. I have used RS5000s on other trucks and my basic outcome is that they work just as good as all the other lower end aftermarket shocks (monroe, etc). RS5000s will provide a much better ride then your stock shocks, so I'd say go with them! However, don't overlook some of the other brands. If you are tight on cash, then don't break the bank just for a "name".
You know that body role when you are going around corners at about 60mph and you hit a slight bump in the road? You know, when the back end feels like it hops out and your heart skips a beat? Well that will be cured with a nice set of shocks

Edelbrocks are pretty awesome too. I have had a couple of experiences with them and have not been dissapointed yet. Also never heard a bad thing about Bilsteins as well. Just depends on what you want to spend. Don't think you can really go wrong. Everyone seems to have a favorite shock. If you get 50 replies to this, you will have 50 different recommendations...
I would love to get those Edelbrocks with the second reservoir! Just can't afford them
Billsteins are great for performance vehicles but I never thought of them as a great 4x4 shock. I might be mistaken though because I never was in a truck equiped with them. Plus they cost an arm and a leg.
kruck,
Your truck looks great! Mighty similar to mine I might add
. Glad to hear it all worked out for you. Are you happy with your setup? I personally wish I would have went with a suspension lift but I know I couldn't afford it. I would still be running stock if I was holding out for a suspension lift. Now if my truck was my only vehicle, then it would be seriously decked out. However, I have several other projects in which my spare cash goes into.

Hey Kev... I'm with ya. I would love to do a suspension lift as well. My wife is on my case to get her 66 mustang restored, so all my cash goes to it.
I love the setup. I can't believe how nice it drives. Can't wait to get new shocks to make it even smoother..
