Suspension Conversion
Is it possible to replace the entire suspension and rear axle with a F250 system?
Anyone ever try this?
Are the wheel bolt patterns the same?
I am trying to beef up my suspension and towing capacity, but I would hate to part with my F150. I am ar 90,000 miles, and my second rear axle is on the way out.
Truck is a 99 F150 XLT super cab short bed, 4.6 auto.
Thanks in advance for any help.

For what it would cost to swap in a 3/4 ton suspension it would be cheaper to trade trucks. You don't want a pre 99 suspension as the the old leaf sprung TTB axles sucked big time, and it would be kinda hard to swap in. A 99+ SD axle would be a LITTLE easier to put in, but it would still be alot of work. The bolt patterns are not the same. The F150 is a 5 lug, F250+ is an 8lug. Not to mention you'd need all new steering and driveshafts to go with this. If you really want to do this be prepared to spend $4000+ depending how fancy you go. Since you have a 99 with a 4.6L I'd guess you have an 8.8 rear axle. If you do swap in a 9.75 out of another F150. This will give you a slightly beefier axle but it will keep your stock bolt pattery. The main adjustment you'd have to make is having a shop shorten your driveshaft a little.
What Powerstroke writes, I have done. I swapped my 8.8 for a 9.75. I bolts right up and all that needs to be changed is the length of the drive shaft. PAR International in OHIO has Axles for about $600.00. The only grief I had was with the axle breather. On my 8.8 it was corroded and had to be replaced becasue I cut it off.
