Question Rusting Torsion Bars?

My 2001 F-150 4x4 torsion bars are rusting out right in the middle, primarily on the bottom, toward the road. They are all fat and beefy looking right there because the rust is under the coating. Should I look at getting them replaced under extended warranty (Ford ESP Extra Care) if they're covered, or is this a common problem? Thanks!!!

BTW, about a year and a half ago I cranked the bars about 4 turns...1 - 1 1/2" lift then had an alignment,

I don't think you'll get very far trying to have the ESP replace them if they don't fail first........ I've heard it's hard to get any ESP to do anything regarding a claim, even when the part in question fails..... but that's just what I've heard.........

It's probably just surface rust and should not be a concern, other then it looking bad....

Surface rust is actually a way most metals protect themselves from the more damaging 'cancer' rust that starts to eat away at the metal.

I'd try sanding them and then using a flexable 'undercoating' type of spray paint on them. My whole undercarrage had this done to it and it seems to be holding up ok.

Good luck!
