Question about Lower ball joints on 97 2WD

I did a search and it seems many have done this replacement. I have a couple of questions. Do you need the ball joint fork to release the ball joint from the spindle? Also, it seems some have used a ball joint press in place, where did you get the press? How much did it cost.
I changed my rotors again this weekend and found about a 1/4 inch play in the passenger side lower ball joint so I figure I better do them before it gets too cold here.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As I recall, the spindle came out of the knuckle easily.

AutoZone has a ball joint press in their Loan-A tool program. That's the one I used. Free after you return it and get your deposit back.

I found all the information needed in older posts here to do the job. Very helpful crowd here.
