Post rear monroe sensa trac installed

well, i replaced the rear shocks on my expy w/ monroe sensatracs. they couldnt order fronts in time for my vacation so i just went with the rears for now.
the right side was an easy swap. 31 minutes.

the left side was killer. first off, the gas tank brakets were totally in the way so i had to use 23 inches of extension bars. then i found that the upper shock braket was bent in a little and the shock took a a$$ FULL of pushing to get in. left side took about 75 minutes.

it was worth it in the end. even with only replacing the rear shocks, ride quality went up by 2 billion percent. nearly zero body roll in turns now. with the fronts replaced i am expecting zero body roll in turns. also that annoying CA hop(cadillac ride) is gone. only mimimally firmer ride than stock.

my truck has only 36000k and the stock shocks were shot to ****. i know this is normal though. one of them cannot even rebound on it's own if i compress it with my hand. that is bad. the other takes about 15 seconds to rebound.
my hands are falling off. sorry for long post but i know someone out there is looking into new shocks. these are inexpensive and the are well worth the money. but i bet the reflex/ias/rsx tech is even better

I am thinking about going with the same shocks. I had Rancho 5000 shocks installed on my F150 4x4 with ORP on Monday and they are just to stiff around town. I have talked to several people since then and gotten alot of advice. It seems that the Reflex shocks are quite firm also and the Edelbrocks are supposed to be firm. Two different people recommended the Monroe SensaTrac shocks. I am going to install the rears today, would like to install the fronts but can't get the bottom bolt loose. Now the nut is somewhat rounded, any advice?

well, if the nut is rounded there are three things you can do.
1. you can grind/cut the bolt off and get a new one.
2. you can cut a line down the middle and use a screwdriver bit in a ratchet.
3. you can cut two sides of the nut so that an open end wrench can get on it.
i am not sure if any of these would work with that particular bolt though. it will be on there pretty tight.
good luck

Thumbs up

Try to grind a flat spot off on each side you you can get a wrench or vice grips on it. Of course replace it once you get it off.

I have Edlebrocks (sp?) all around and new set of Duelers and they're great. The shocks are best when you're traveling over rough, washboard surface cuz they level it right out. In other situations they aren't much different from originals when they were new.
