Post help with a jack

Ok so i tried to jack up my truck today and the stock jack wont lift it off the ground. So i went to Pepboys and bought a 4 ton bottle jack and it still wasnt tall enough. Will a stock jack out of a 4x4 get it off the ground cause i can get one fairly cheap at a local junkyard. Any help would be appreciated.

Question

I carry a piece of scrap 2x8 (about a foot) in the bed. It gives the stock jack a bigger 'foot print' in the poor side of road situations one may find themselves.

Wouldn't two, or even three of these solve your problem?

Question

Brew, are you sure it's telescoping all the way. I believe there are about three sleeves that should show with it all the way out. Your tires are taller than mine but, still unless the jack is in a hole or is faulty it should lift a 4x2.

In any event a couple of pieces of wood under the jack is a cheap fix. The only reason I use wood is because I'm lazy and don't want to crank that much.
