Question Torsion Bars

I have a 97 F150 4X4 ORP and have been going through front CV joint boots and axles (4) like no tomorrow . On my recent trip to the dealer for repair, they are now saying the torsion bars have been cranked up and causing the boots to hit and wear prematurely, personally I think it is a crock and would like to hear some thoughts on this.

No, I never touched them. I bought the vehicle used from the same dealer and always had it serviced there also.

okay. That does not really matter.

But you can tell the dealer to get a 97 Ford F150 brochure and get the quote out of there. it goes something like this:

front adjustable suspension on 4x4 only.
It goes on about ride height and winches, etc.

So I would tell the dealer to bite you on that one! Then tell them to fix it! Even if the bars were cranked before you got them, they are still ride height adjustable according to Ford. If you have problems, call the district rep and then the Ford Customer service. Go over the dealers head if they give you problems and you have a warranty!

But this is a problem that can result if the bars to up to far!

2 hours! I hope that was everything, cause I can do it in under 3 minutes. All it is is adjusting 2 18mm bolts on the underside of the truck, and measuring!

Good to hear the dealer treated you fairly.

Thumbs down

knt-

I know the dealer didn't charge you 2 hours labor for adjusting the torsion bars!! Even if he adjusted them with a pliers and measured the height with a micrometer there is no way it could have taken 2 hours. Hopefully, he performed some other miniscule service in that time frame.

Cool

Actually, the service writer called today and said they had made an error in charging me and will reimburse me for the charge.
