Question Suspension vs. Body? I need opinions!

I have been thinking of adding a lift to my 01' SuperCab 4x4. Besides the cost, what is the difference between a suspension and body lift?

I mean, I know the difference but what effects will it have on my truck. Is 3 inches of body the same as 3 inches of suspension?

I saw this POS Dodge Ram the other day and I don't want my truck to look like his. You could tell it was cheap lift. Like 4 blocks between the axle and leaf springs. Dodge makes those trucks abnormally high and stupid looking in the first place.

Any susgestions as to what to use or what to go for?

A body lift will lift only the body of your truck. A suspension lift will raise the whole thing. Think of it this way. If you have a suspension lift, you will get 3 more inches of ground clearance underneath the whole truck. If you get a body lift, the body of the truck will be raised, but the frame will still be in the same place, resulting in more axle clearance, this is why you can see the frame hanging out from under trucks with body lifts. If you have money to do it, get a suspension lift, but they run from $1000 - $2500 just for the lift. If you just want to add larger tires, a body lift is the way to go. You can put a 3" body lift on there and fit 33"s easy. If you want performance, (smoother ride, offroad performance) then your best bet is the suspension lift. Hope this helps, good luck.

I agree with everything trucklover said except that suspension lifts give you more clearance. This is not always true. Several people i know have the 4" rancho suspension on their trucks with 35" tires. I have a 3" body with 35" tires. The clearance in the front is the same (skidplates same height above ground and such) except increased by a tire height change. This is because a suspension lift retains all the stock angles the same as stock in the suspension. More or less you can think of the two in that a suspension will give you improved articulation in the suspension even though you've added bigger tires. A body lift will not have as much articulation because the suspension has not changed, therefore, rubbing and such are more frequent. Although i have a 3" body, i can still get quite a bit of flex out of the front and rear suspension, but my friends with the rancho's can get more. Clearance is increased under the truck however, which is what trucklover is probably talking about. anyways, hope this helps.
