Poly Bushings
Daystar has listed on their site that they have available: upper/lower control arm bushings, lower control arm bump stop, a stem cushion (??), tie rod end & ball joint dust boot, and a front sway bar bushing kit.
i have heard good things about replacin the front sway bar bushings, but as for the others, i havent noticed much discussion. so my question is: are these things worth it, and will they really help anything?
**i know my truck is a 4x4, and i love its versatility, but im always lookin for ways to improve its onroad capabilities (without hindering the offroad)**

Mines a 2wd but big and heavy. I just replaced the front anti-sway bar bushings this weekend. (Energy Suspension from Summit Racing) It replaces not only the bushings, but the end links; much more substantial end links I might add.
So far I can say the front end is more tame. I surprisingly found that replacing the rear OEM bar made a difference in "bobbing" at high speeds when I hit dips or rolls in the road. Today I noticed even better control after hitting a specific spot today, at about 70MPH with the front bushings replaced.
It just feels even more in control.
I'd say the front anti-sway bar bushings are definitly worth the $30 or so, and about 30-45 minutes it took to replace everything.
I'm curious about other bushings as well. Anyone else done more???

I just order mine today, from Summit Racing, for my 2000 4x4 Expy 5.4L. They were $29 for the front-end anti-sway bar poly bushing set. They are shipping from Akron, OH, and I should have them by Friday (They were in stock!).
Sorry, but I didn't get the Summit part number. They were very helpful, and it took just a few minutes to order. THey can be reached at 1.800.230.3030.
Hey Ride. Any instructions come with this bushing set?

jmartinb,
I'll bet you're getting the ones I returned.
They shipped me a set for a 4x4 first. Let me know if you don't get Energy Suspension stickers in it. I also opened the bag with the parts. I put them all back of course.
No instructions really. Just a diagram showing where to grease. You use their pre-lube, really clear burt heavy grease on the ID of the to bar bushings. The end links just come right out and go right back in. I did however, email ES to ask about torqueing the end links. With the poly, you can keep going and going and the bushings never seem to compress so it's hard to judge how tight they should be.
Seriously let me know about the kit. That would be hilarious if you did get then one I returned. An oh, I can send you the stickers.

That would be hilarious if I got your initial set!
Don't mean to be dense here, but this is my first attempt at doing this type of suspension work. So, I've got a few questions...Do I need any special tools? Can I work on the truck as is, without jacking, etc? What do you mean by the "ID"?
Any gotchas for a first-timer?
I'll keep you posted on the kit. You didn't leave any parts out, did ya?
It's due to my house on Friday. If they're missing, I'll bill you for the stickers...!

poly bushings will not give you any extra roll resistance if you use the same anti-roll bar . . BUT . . it WILL give you more immediate response because the poly doesn't give like the rubber bushings . . your vehicle should feel more responsive but the ultimate roll stiffness won't be affected much. you might notice a bit more harshness on bumps.

jmartinb,
Here goes,
1) No special tools. If I remember right, 18mm wrench for the top and 16mm deep socket for the nut on bottom, or what I used, 18mm standard socket on top and 16mm wrench for the nut on bottom for the end links and for the bushing brackets, I think it was a 1/2 so I used a deep socket.
2) I did it as it stood. You'rs being 4x4 you should have a couple extra inches to breath.
3) And ID is inner diameter. You use the grease they ship to pre-lube the inside of the bushings. I here poly can squeak like mad if it's not lubed. I used the whole tub on both. Of course once it put them on the bar, some squeezed out the sides.
The only trick is getting the poly bushings spread open to get them on the bar. It can give your fingers a work out.
The end links may seem like they won't come out without pushing the bar out of the way, but the other end of the bar has the end links still bolted down. They will come out. The center sleeve is plastic and you can pull the bolt up as far as you can, then pull the middle of the bolt/plastic sleeve sideways and pop it out. Really easy once you see it.
Seriously, since these kits are special order, and I just returned one, it may be the same one. And I really did keep the stickers out of the first one
I'll send a set to you if they're missing from yours. I used one on my tool chest so I still have that set plus the other set and I don't need them. All the important parts where there though!!
Let me know....

Hey 'Ride, where are my stickers????!!!!!??
The package arrived today. Only a Summit Racing sticker. The parts package was previously opened (it appears with scissors), and no Energy Suspension sticker. In the bag were two metal rods with bushings (swaybar end replacements?) and two large bushings. Were your bushings black?
The million dollar question is: do I have all of the parts?
Let me know...I'm leaving for Florida tomorrow night! Thanks.

jmartinb,
LMAO. That's the one I had. If I remember, I cut it with scissors but not all the way across the top. I taped it back up with some wide, clear packing tape I think.
And yes, that's it and mine were black as well. The 2 "bolts" with 4 bushings each are the end links, and the 2 bushings are just that, the bushings.
They put there " bag-o-marketing-goodies" in there along with their sticker.
What a coincedence. Email me at kennedy-jim@home.com if you want to give me your address and I'll mail the stickers to you!!
Maybe I'm easily amused but this is really funny!!
