Exclamation 15" Wheels?!?!

I saw some guy today w/ a 8" lift on a new Silverado...anyways, i saw that he had 15" wheels on it! Does the larger wheel serve a purpose or is it just looks? Also, i think the guy w/ the whiplash lift on this board has 15's. If there is no purpose of a larger wheel then heck i might go w/ 15's. Cheaper wheels, cheaper tires :-)
So are the advantages of a 16.5 over a 15? thanx!

Well the main reason for changing rim sizes like that is tire selection. You can find alot more tires that will fit on 15" rims than you can on 16" rims. It used to be you could find alot more tires for a 16.5" rim than a 16" rim before too, but most manufacturers now are making more 16" size tires. If you try and go to a 15" rim you will have to get a small backspacing on it to try and clear the drums. But I've heard that you can't even do that on the 99 and newer models. So you could only run the 15" rims on a 97/98 model truck. I would go with either a 16 or a 16.5 rim. With the 16" rims you will be looking at mostly metric size tires (ex. 285/75/16) and with the 16.5" rims you will be looking mainly at standard sizes (ex. 33/12.5/16.5). Hope this helps.
