Post Getting Very Sick of Seeing This!!!!!

OK, maybe i'm just gettin jealous. But i know here around houston- a year ago when i lifted my truck there were very few new body style (97+) lifted F150s. There were a few yes, but not many. I saw 5, count them 5, lifted F150s today driving home from school...5! One was red like mine. Same wheels and lift (different tires, but same size)...2 blacks, one blue, and one white. But it really aggravates me. I know it looks good, but i feel like everyone is copying me- that usually wouldnt bother me except now my truck seems to be loosing that 'custom' touch that i was really after...looks like i'll be going for the 5" suspension and 38s now...are lifted F150s becoming more popular in all of your areas too? Getting very sick of seeing this! Not that they dont look good, but just getting too common with the 3" body and 33s or 35s...or maybe its just me...ugh!

P.S.- i'm not in a bad mood, and if you want to get a 3" body lift and 33s/35s go for it. I just wish there wasn't 5 (minimum) around here JUST LIKE MINE! anywayz, blowing steam...

There are a few here, but not as many as there. The big thing here is Z71's with 3" body lifts. Not that that's bad, but EVERYBODY has them!

yea, those are really popular here too...i see a lot of Z's with 33s and a 3" body...but the late model F150s are just popping up lately, i guess its cause more people have had them for longer and can now afford to mod. them, or people are buying them more used cause they are finally getting, dare i say, older? Personally, i'm waiting for the 2005 model...as soon as i get it, i'm lifting that bad boy...probably to fit 36-38s...o yea...

BigBad-

Burbank is pretty small, and gossip city. Everyone knows eachother, even with all the studios here, and...

6 people I KNOW in Burbank have lifted F-150's. Luckily, I'm the only red though. I know every single person and see an average of 1 a day!!!!

The answer...GO HIGHER

I figure a 10" whiplash and 3" body on 44s would be about as "custom" as you could get in the height department (and still keep IFS)...maybe thats what i should do, although, that would be a very very painful truck to drive around town...esp. highway...shhhhaaaaaakkkkiiinnnnggg, vvvviiiibbbbbbrrrrraaaaattttttiiiiinnnnngggg....an d imagine the money for tires...you'd spend probably 2 grand on tires and they'd probably only get 25000 miles out...gosh...anywayz...back to the topic...too many F150s...anyone else?

maybe thats what it is...a guy came up to me right after i got my new wheels and tires and asked me about them...two months later i saw him with them...copying is the most sincere form of flattery, right? My luck i'd stick 38s on there and someone would have them the next day! Probably not...but anywayz, anyone else?

First let me say that around my area not too many 97+ F150's are lifted. But I'll take a stab at why they are becoming more common. First, people let their warranties expire. (3 years, 1997+3=2000 so around this time) Also, yes the newer style trucks are getting older, thus being sold used under $20,000 for a 4x4 and a larger population can afford them now, instead of 2-4 years ago when most 4x4's were $30,000+. Also and exactly in my case, Ive finally got some money to start modifying more now....within a month or two, Ill be going even higher with a susp lift (finally) and 36's.

BigBadRedLiftedFordMan-

You're a trendsetter! You should be flattered that everyone wants a rig like yours!

Where I'm from, which is North-Central Alberta, everyone has trucks! Cars are outnumbered here literally 3 to 1. In most families, the wife uses the half-ton (or SUV) for everything, and the husband drives a superduty. Everyone actually uses and needs a 4x4 here, instead of just for bragging rights. It is an absolute necessity. There are more Fords on the roads than Shovies or Dodge-me's here, but fewer of the Fords are lifted.

I've figured out why. The Fords, even totally stock, are great off-roaders. They have excellent articulation and clearance already. A shovie is simply not as good off road, not as much articulation or clearance. The Dodge has a great front live axle, but they are ponderous trailriders. My opinion anyways, borne out by my observations.

Yeah Bigbadredliftedfordman like Jimw said you should be flattered to see everyone wants to copy your truck ( hell even I want too... well just the lift). Around here there are a few 97+ F150's lifted. But plenty of lifted trucks none the less. Most people I have talked to have just cranked the torsion bars to fit a 305/70/16 or similar tire.
That sparks another question to me. Wouldn't messing with the torsion bars change your stock steering geometry? I would think that it would cause all sorts of bad problems like miss alignments and other steering/suspension problems undermine the fact of added stress on the bars themselves. What kind problems have you guys faced so far with cranked up torsion bars? Let me know?

Hey BigBadRed;
Not many Fords lifted in this area either. I know of one that has a 3" body lift. Looks cool. I've also seen another one and it looked like it had a 2" body. Have'nt seen a suspension lifted FORD in the area in a very long time. Not a very big fan of a body lift, {hopefully in a little over a year or so, I'll be able to afford a 4"suspension lift}. Just like MUDDER's.

P.S. Love your tires. Also, I take it you finally got your truck fixed. Also if you don't mind how much did it finally cost you for the repairs??
