Torsion bar lift???
I have a 2000 4X4 with GY 305/70/17 MT/Rs and I have seen a few rigs with a torsion bar lift and the front end looks great. I would like to know if I can do this tweak at home and how? Also will I need to get an alignment and how will the ride quality suffer after this adjustment?
Thanks in advance.

You will need an 18mm socket and a breaker bar. Climb under your truck and right about under your door you will see the torsion bars ending at a cross member. THere will be two bolts (1 on each side) that control the position of the torsion bars. It is a simple as cranking in those bolts a bit to create the lift. However jack the front of the truck up first before you tighten these bolts. Rumor has it that 1 full turn is 0.25" of lift. So with the truck raised, turn them the number you wish and make sure you turn both bolts the exact same amount. Then drop the truck and take it for a ride for a bit preferably on a bumpy road. Then bring it back and see if you like the new height. I used a tape measure and actually measured all 4 wheel well heights on my truck and cranked the bars until they were all exact. (I think I got about 4 or 5 turns though but only got 7/8" of lift).
yes you will need an alignment, but adjust your truck to the desired height and make sure you are comfortable with it before you take it in for alignment because lowering or raising with the torsion bars any further will require another alignment.
The ride will be a tad stiffer but hardly noticeable.
Others may warn you about cranking it up too high and putting too severe of an angle on your front axles. All I can say about that is I cranked mine for about 7/8" lift and have driven the truck for 70,000 miles and have had no problems thus far. I can't speak for others though and can't speak for any higher of a lift using this method.
Good luck,

Nope I have a 3" body lift. The torsion bar lift was just to level out the ride.
The body lift is a performance acc. lift PRA-PA-863 available at summitracing.com for around $125. I installed the lift myself.
