If you do off roading, you might be better of without them.

I've heard the same thing that they end up packed with mud and crud.

So its not really a necessity that I have them. I was just worried that exposing the shaft might cause it to get dust and other things al over it, causing it to prematurly break.

I noticed you had different shocks installed up front than in back... any particular reason?

Thanks!

Well I first ordered just 4 rancho rsx shocks...they ordered 2 longer ones in the front for the spacers...but when they came in they were too long...but they had a set of procomps that apparently matched the increase ion height so they installed those.

Post Do I need the Shock boots?

I just got my truck back from 4wheel parts....1.5 inch daystar polyeurethane spacers and 2 procomp es3000 up front and 2 rancho rsx's in the back. And none of the shocks have the shock boot....is this a bad thing, will it lower the life of the shock?

I was told that the boots actually cause more trouble than they prevent - they trap mud and crud inside them and cause the rod and seals to wear faster.

On the other hand, they prevent rocks and sand from pitting the rods. It's a tradeoff I guess. I have seen race trucks set up with no boots and little flat plastic guards that prevent rocks hitting the rods. Sorry I don't have any pics of this but I could dig some up if you want.

Never mind, I went and checked out the truck and its 4 Procomp Es3000's. That makes a bit more sense.

ilmagill,

Make sure you didn't pay for the Rancho RSX's because they cost a little more than double the es3000's.

Also, just wondering if you measured before and after to see if the spacers gave you 1 1/2 inches? I ordered their one inch spacers (still awaiting) and was curious if that was accurate.

Yeah they gave me the rebate on them. Thanks. I'm not exactly sure what size spacers I got...but they gave 1.5 inches of lift. They look to be about 2 inches thick but the coil sits partially inside so im not sure exactly how much spacer it sits on top of. I believe 1 inch spacers give you a bit more than 1 inch of lift. My truck sits very slighty higher in the back....maybe less than .25 inches. Its 38.75 inches to the top of the front fender and 39 inches to the top of the back fender.
