Red face HUGE Problem guys, HELP!!! DAVENSA! ANYONE!

Okay, just got the truck back from getting a dent taken out ALL week. While inspecting the truck everwhere, I noticed something I've never noticed before, or heard of.

Since getting my new tires and rims, the rear driver's side tire sits inside the wheel well, while the rear passenger tire sticks out of the wheel well by 2-3"! Hopefully you can get a visual of what I am talking about. (Looking at truck from behind, you can barely see the left tire, and the right is completely sticking out of the well, which is the way it's supposed to look) The pic below is the correct side.

Any idea of why this is. It looks horrible, and something must be wrong. Maybe the body lift?
correct tire position (passenger side):

I'm gonna guess it happened during the body lift. I bet if you loosen the bed bolts and nudge the bed over it would even out.

How does the bed's clearences compare on each side of the cab? Where the back window is.

My first guess would be the body lift, But if you have that coverd! check and see if your rims are the same off-set. This might sound dumb buy you never what happens at those tire shops!

I too would guess the body lift first, tires and rims second, did the axle move over alittle..check your blocks to ensure proper locations....DAVE

the front driverside is in also, and the passenger side front is out? If the front of the truck is the same as the back, I would guess that is has always been like that and you can just tell now more with the wider tires...

No the front of the truck is perfectly centered over the tires, each sticks out exactly the same. I have an appointment at 9am Saturday to get it checked, I'll let you know what happens

Thanks for everyone's help!

Swap the two rear wheels and see if it still makes a difference. If it does, wheels, doesn't, it's something else.

Hey man not much to worry about.. I know exactly why! Your profile says you have lift spindles. If they are made by fabtech, they are made to extend the wheel out about 1.5 inches to 2 inches. THis is a result of the lift spindles. Now there is not much you can do. It has nothing to do with a body lift.

my first question is this: are the tires tilted inward? Look from directly above the tire and see if it faces inward. My rear axle did a funny thing on my that i had never heard b4...it ended up looking like this:

front

|---|

/---/

back

This is what happens when the two half shafts of the axle rotate different directions at the differntial housing. The result makes the right tire stick out further in the back and the left tire in the back tend to be further under the wheelwell. Although this happened to mine...it CAN just happen to one side or tire. If you suspect this is what's happening, have someone drive behind you, see if, from their view, your truck appears to be driving "sideways" (meaning the back seems to be slightly farther to the right (or left in inversed situations) than the front.) If this is a problem you also might notice that you must turn the steering wheel slightly to the side to compensate when going straight.

If this is not the problem, then measure from the rear brakes to the ubolts on each side of the rear axle. Make sure those #s are the same or very close. Make sure your leafsprings appear to be in line with each other and the brackets (indicating loose or sheared spring bolts)and not in an abnormal shape (indicating axle-wrap).

Hope this helps some, if i think of something else, i'll let ya know...

JSL... read the description of his problem again. The Fabtech spindles are NOT the cause! His problem is that one of the REAR tires/wheels is sticking farther out than the other REAR tire/wheel. It has nothing to do with the FRONT spindles.

You sure you're not a Chevy mechanic?

Glad i could be of some help. I had to take mine to several different places. The first 3 i took it to, had no idea what the problem was. The last one was a place called Pyle Brothers in Baytown, TX and they knew immediately. They only deal with differentials and axles. They called my problem "axle tweaking" or when the axle becomes "torqued". I hope this helps ya out...you can search for my original posts before i figured out the problem in this 'Suspension' forum...let me know how it turns out...

P.S.- I feel ya on one day enjoying your truck. I don't think i've literally gone more than a month without having another problem. However, when i asked several shops about whether they see any more Fords than Chevy's and Dodge's...they always said they they all have problems, and that they see just as many other brands as fords...so maybe i'll still stick with Ford next time again...

Well, after all that, it's been fixed.

They said that the body just "shifted" a bit, maybe a hard bump I might have hit or something. They loosened and re-torqued everything and said it's as good as new. They also said that the first 20 days of any lift can cause these types of problems, and I was supposed to bring it back in to get everything re-tightened anyways.

So for now...I'm going to drive it around for a few more hours (getting the old
11 mpg) until my next problem. Talk to you then! Thanks again.

Jon-lol

Thanks guys! BigBadRedLifted, thanks for the tip, I took your description with me and gave it to the mechanic this morning. They are checking it as we speak, and I should have it back by 1:00 here so I'll post the verdict.

One of these days, I'll be able to begin enjoying the truck that has emptied my wallet and actually have it in my possession for more than a day!
