Question rough ride

I am experiencing a rough ride at all speeds. This is on a '98 Expedition EB 4x4 with rear LLS and air shocks in front. Just had it in to the dealer who claims the tires need balancing. Brand new Michelins were purchased less than a month ago. I didn't notice any change in the ride after the new tires were installed so I am ruling out a balance problem. I noticed a rubber bumper on the lower control arm in front. It has about 3/8" clearance to the frame. Expy's on the lot have about 1-1/2" clearance. This could be the problem. Anyone out there experience same? Anyone know how to adjust the height of the airshock? I am beginning to think the dealers in this area don't know squat.

How many miles on the truck? Are you still running the stock shocks? It could be those. I've heard that the stock shocks are only good for about 10000 miles before the ride starts getting harsh...

Thanks for the reply. The '98 Expy has about 46k miles on it. I thought the front airshocks would last much longer than that. From what I have read on this site, only Ford makes the replacement shock for the front.

i'm having the same problem with my 97 Expedition EB 4x4 with the air suspension too. i have the Edelbrock performer IAS shocks on the rear and they did smooth out the ride a bit but i cant get them for the front with the air shocks. does anyone know if there are aftermarket air shocks for Expeditions.
thanks for ur replies

To Chris4wheeling
I have not had any success finding replacement air shocks for the front. Somebody has to make 'em. Did you check the clearance up front b/w the rubber bumper (jounce stop?) and frame? Any idea how to raise the height by adjusting the sensor? It appears (and I havn't tried it) that the rear height sensor can slide up and down in its bracket. I am wondering if the front is somehow controlled by the rear since it is "load leveling"?

i believe the sensor for the front suspension is located on the driver side. there is a lever the controls the hight. i havent mess with it yet so if u decided to try it please tell me how it works.
for the front bump stops, do u want me to measure when the expedition has been off for awhile or when its running b/c the suspension will lower when motor off and when started it will lift about 2 inches. also when u switch to 4wd it will lift another 2 inches.

Edelbrock shocks would be great, however, I've gone round and round with Edlebrock and they are very clear that they do not make a shock for the Expy with LLS. 4 corner LLS is very clear as they specify in the application guide. I've got 2x4 with rear LLS only and the guy I worked with took it to the head of shock development and the official word from Edelbrock is that they do not make a shock for this vehicle. I think they stick with that general statement because they haven't done testing.

Either way, the 4 corner LLS that you can get on the 4x4 is definetly out.

Just wanted to set the Edelbrock issue straight. Bilstein does make them but again, the fronts on 4 corner LLS can't be replaced except with Ford parts.

Not true about the shocks. I would recommend changing the shocks with Edelbrock performer IAS shocks. WOW, what a difference
