Unhappy 97 front suspention squeaks

When I turn the steering wheel I can hear the sound of rubber rubbing against metal but it's not the wheels. It feels like linkage. Everyone at work can hear it when I come in and park. Any ideas?

mine does the same thing and an expy at work does the same thing. I noticed there is only 1 zerk fitting in all the front end parts. There is places to drill and tap them. Most likely Ford's way of making you come back to replace them and money in the pocket after the warranty.

You could pull the front steering components apart and grease them or use a needle and feed grease in the boots that way.

Change your pittman arm...the bushing wears and grinds and squeals like hell. Check with your dealer as there was a warrenty issue on some trucks.

I have mine in the shop today for the same problem. They said it was the pittman arm, and I have the extended warranty... Was this a recall item that I shouldn't have to pay for??

I don't believe it is a recall, but it is not uncommon. With the ESP, you might consider waiting a while to have some other items tended to so you only have one $50.00
deduct. It's an irritating noise but I don't believe it is a dangerous situation.
It shouldn't cost more than about $60.00, ten out of pocket.

Woody1, thanks for the info! I looked up the part on carparts.com and they even list an "improved design" for a replacement arm. $34 and change for it

thanks!
