Thumbs up Rancho RSX Shocks

Just installed Rancho RSX shocks 4 days ago. Man, what a great ride! They really stiffened up the truck, nowhere near the body roll it used to have. I feel like I have a high performance suspension on my 4x4 F-150!

You might also want to consider a Hellwig rear sway bar. It makes the truck very stable on turns. It made a world of difference when I did the RSX's and Hellwig sway bar.

One thing that concerns me about my RSX shocks is, I noticed when installing the front ones that they don't allow full upward travel of the suspension. With the truck on stands (under the frame) allowing the front suspension to fully extend, the shocks at their full extension lacked about 1/2 an inch from touching the top shock mount. I'm afraid if the front suspension ever fully extends hard, it will result in damage to the shock(s). In other words, they would top out. I actually had to put a jack under the lower A-arm to get the lower rubber bushing to contact the shock mount so I could tighten the nut properly. The stock units weren't like that. They had enough travel to allow full extension of the suspension without topping out. I've been meaning to post this and ask if anyone else noticed this condition when they installed theirs? Also, if anyone has had any problems as a result?

The difference in the travel of the RSX concerned me too. I talked to a Ford technician, and he told me the factory shocks are generic shocks. It doesn't matter if you truck is a 2wd, 4wd, F-150 or F-250, they all get the same shock. He said, the shocks that come on the truck are too big from the factory, because they have to be big enough to clear an F-250 4x4. That seemed to make perfect sense to me, and he said there is nothing to worry about.
