Has anyone heard anything about the torsion bars crystalizing and breaking ? Maybe it's just a bad rumor.

A friend of mine was making a u-turn yesterday when the drivers side bar snapped.
Took it to the dealer today they said they've
had about a dozen come in over the last couple of years.
97 SC 4X4 5.4 XLT 44,000 miles
