Question Broken Torsion Bar?

I got out of my truck today and looked back on it in the parking lot on the way to work, and noticed the truck has a bag sag now on the front passenger side. I haven't had a chance to get underneath, but I've heard the Ford guys at the shop talk about broken torsion bars being a frequent problem. Anyone experience that?

Could be a number of things. Check the tire pressure first, make sure you dont have a small leak or a flat.

Otherwise, it could be a torsion bar or the torsion bar mount broke.

MrScot:

After breaking a torsion bar while merging into interstate traffic, I would bet that you would see if the torsion bar was broken, as they usually break into 2 pieces. If you were near or in the truck when it broke you would hear it, it makes quite a loud noise.

Good Luck

Well it's not the bar. I crawled under there this weekend and they look fine. The tire pressure is ok, I checked that. But the truck is still sagging. Struts?

You dont have struts > shocks on all 4 corners. Check the torsion bar adjustment bolt. Otherwise it may be a sign of failure???

Scot, yes mine broke last Friday as I was getting ready to leave work. I started the truck, put it in reverse and bang! The left front corner dropped. At first I thought it was the tire that blew. Got out took a look tire was fine. Talked to the Dealer here and was told they have seen several. It was a good thing that I was not changing my oil at that time; I could have been killed. If I change my oil any more jack stands will be used. In my opinion this is a safety issue.
