Lowered 1997 F-150 Help
hey, i used to have 2in drop shackles on the rear of my truck and also noticed that one side was almost an inch lower. i asked the place that installed it if they had done something wrong, but was told that most trucks come that way, it is just more noticable when the truck is lifted/lowered. i think his reasoning was that when the trucks are transported to the dealers, they are strapped on so tight it warps the leafs. not really sure how true that is. anyway, my truck is now lifted and i see no difference in the height of the the sides, but then again the leafs are not directly affected as in the shackles. hope this helps a little.

something must be wrong. did the truck sag that way before you dropped it? if not there is a piece that is made wrong or you may have installed it improperly. did you tighten up both sides in the same position? if you tighten up shackle bolts, one with a load, meaning the weight of the vehicle on one spring and no weight on the other, sometimes this will make one sit different. it should correct itself in time but i would correct it now instead of twisting the bushing. mine is level, was when i started and when i finished. dropped 4&6.
I just recently lowered my 97 F-150 3" in from and 4' in the rear with Belltech hardware. My problem is that the RR of the truck is now about 3/4" to 1" lower than the other 3 corners of the truck. Anybody have any experience with this or any suggestions on what I can do to fix?????? Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks for the info, I am going to loosen the 4 shackle bolts while the truck is on the ground, jump on the bumper and see if there is a bind on the RR and then tighten up. I am not for sure, because I did not measure before, but I do not believe that there was a problem before installation. I am also going to move the RR leaf spring down one hole on the shackle if my first solution does not work.

nytling92, what brand kit did you use on your truck? what did it come with and what exactly did the installation involve? thanks for the info. your truck looks sweet with that drop.

I used Belltech 3" coils on the front of my truck. Look to pay around $150 for the coils and I would recommend Nitro Drop shocks at about $40 a piece. Give The Pits a call at 214-222-4848 or visit www.2thepits.com. They are located in Lewisville, Texas so not too far from where you are in Lake Texoma. Good luck

pro, i used a DJM 4/6 kit. it involved 2" lowered a-arms and 2" coils for the front and 6" flip kit and c-notch for the rear. i had to cut the frame to c-notch it but everything else was pretty straight forward. now i would reccomend the western kit as their a-arms are built structurely better, they have added bracing. i do have to say that my truck rides and handles well and i'm very pleased.
For those of you who responded with some suggestions regarding my suspension issue...thanks. Just as an FYI, what I have found to be the problem is the right rear leaf spring. That particular spring appears to have less spring rate on it and therefore is causing the RR to sit lower than the LR. We did a measurement with a string attached to the front spring bolt and the rear spring bolt and then measured the distance from the string to the top of the leaf spring and have found a 1.25" difference between the RR and the LR. What we tried to do to compensate for that is lower the spring bolt on the RR shackle down one notch. It accomplished the rise of the RR but also brought up the LR as well. Next I may try to replace the leaf spring or block up the RR leaf about an inch. Thanks for all the replies.
